Godspell

This show hardly needed an introduction, so successful was it in the winter of 1998/9. The first production by ICP , which comprised six performances in St. Mary's Church, Thame was a sell-out and so six more performances were given at the 900 seat Swan Theatre in High Wycombe. This is the show that God used to meld the talents of over 140 members of the cast and crew into a very powerful and cohesive tool for doing his works. We owe much to prayer and the support of many Christians in over 10 church congregations.

"Having provided some rehearsal space for the production, I was delighted to view the recent performances of GODSPELL and I enthusiastically endorse the Christian message conveyed. It was wonderful to see members of my congregation blossom who had been (in the words of the show) "hiding their light under a bushel." May this production continue on as successfully to Wycombe and grant the same blessings to all that take part. Fr. Chris Marsden [St. Joseph’s RC]

"This production came out of the vision of one person who saw it as an opportunity to bring Christians together in a display of unity and fellowship and to enable them to engage in evangelism in a relevant way. The result far exceeded our expectations and all those involved in Godspell felt that God’s hand had been with them and upon them. The six performances here in Thame were totally sold out and many people who had had no previous contact with the church heard the Christian message and responded warmly to it. Obviously the success of any run in High Wycombe depends on local churches becoming involved in the project and I would warmly encourage you to use this as a springboard for your church members to reach their unchurched friends.

We were not conscious of coming from different traditions and denominations. One Spirit united us and one Spirit motivated us. And I’m not sure who benefited the more, the audiences for whom we performed or ourselves, the participants. The gospel story we were presenting made a deep impact on us as we entered into it.
